Ingredients

    2 cups split peas, rinsed
    6 cups hot water
    1 cup sliced or diced carrots
    1 cup sliced celery
    1 medium onion, chopped
    2 garlic cloves, minced
    1/2 tsp dried marjoram
    1/2 tsp dried basil
    1/4 tsp ground cumin
    1 tsp salt
    1/4 tsp black pepper
    Pinch of cayenne

Directions

Rinse the split peas, then place them in the slow cooker with the remaining ingredients. Cover and cook on high for 3 to 4 hours, or until the peas are soft and the vegetables are tender.

    This is a really simple, really good recipe. It's especially good when the weather starts getting cold. My bf also enjoyed it very much. I made 1.5x the recipe and added 1/2 tsp curry powder, cooked it on low for 8 hours. My split peas are 90 cal for 1/4 c (35 g) and the 1-lb bag had 13 servings. - 11/8/10

    just a note - the nutritional information might be incorrect. i know that the split peas i have are about 170 calories for just 1/4 cup! - 12/20/07
