This recipe really seems to offer a lot of calories and fat per slice....why not substitute egg beaters, splenda brown sugar, and unsweetened applesauce for the butter (YIKES!) Put fat free cream cheese between the slices for extra rich flavor (but no added fat and only 30 cal per ounce). - 3/3/09

This tasted wonderful! It was very easy to make and I enjoyed every bite! We cut the fat/calories by using Pepperidge Farms Light Style wheat bread (45 calories per slice) and we made 8 slices of bread with 1/2 of the other ingredients. This cut it down to 131 calories per slice & 4 grams of fat. - 3/9/09

Excellent base recipe. Like the others, I went low cal - 1 tblsp butter and 1 tblsp brown sugar. 4 egg whites and 2 eggs, 1% milk. Near end of cooking I put dots of lowfat marg on the top so it could melt in. Also, you can put it under the broiler for a minute or so to brown the top. Delish. - 6/22/09

I'm glad that this recipe included ingredients that are not low cal. I realize that we use SP to make healthy decisions & many use it to lose weight, so having mostly low cal recipes for people is fabulous! But I don't mind the real things (butter, brown sugar) in moderation. Love the recipe! - 2/25/10

Halved recipe and substituted. butter > applesauce and cow milk > almond milk, sweetened vanilla. Also added 1/4c blueberries to each serving. 255 calories, 6g fat. Will be less next time when I use egg whites only; less than 200-cal per serving! Added this to the permanent recipe box. - 8/12/09

Super simple recipe! I made it for Easter brunch as directed. Mixed reviews from the family. I added extra cinnamon since I really like it; apparently some family did not. The bottom piece of bread was a little soggy and the top a little crunchy. I may try again cooking with foil. - 4/23/14

Tried it. Added pecans and a cup of maple syrup. Can't bear to think I have to limit because of the calories. - 1/22/11

It was awesome. Used lower cal. bread, skim milk, 3 eggs and the rest egg whites. Topped with fresh fruit. No syrup necessary! - 8/3/09
