Ingredients
Directions
1 Package of Lipton Beefy Mushroom or Onion soup mix2 – 2 ½ pounds lean ground beef¼ c. stove top stuffing mix2/4 c. French fried onions(the things that you put on top of green bean casserole)2 eggs¾ c. water2/3 c. 57 sauce (use enough to make the meat mixture really sticky, this is a big part of the taste of the meatloaf)½ green pepper cut up really small½ onion cut up really smallPinch of salt or to tastePinch of pepper or to tastePinch of garlic powder3 – 4 cheese slices1 can French cut green beans
Mix soup mix, water, eggs and 57 sauce in a bowl, add onion, green pepper, salt, pepper, and garlic powder, mix well. Add hamburger, stuffing, French fried onions and mix until hamburger is well coated. Set aside about 2/3 cup of the mixture and then place the rest in a baking dish and form into a loaf. Make an oval hole length wise in the middle of the loaf (do not make the hole all the way to the bottom of the pan, and make sure there is a lip all the way around the hole). Lay cheese on the bottom of the hole on top of the meat mixture, then spread the green beans out on top of the cheese. Add a little more salt, pepper and sometimes dill to the green beans and cheese. Take the left over meat and fill in the hole. Make sure you get it patted together really well so it does not fall apart and so that the cheese cannot come out. Spread some 57 sauce over the top and then bake it for 1 hour or until done at 350 degrees. When it is done top it with more 57 sauce and top it with the French fried onions and bake for about 5 more minutes. Makes 10 to 12 servings.
