Savory Beef Barley Soup

Ingredients
boneless round steakbarleyonionscarrotsceleryfennel seedsmushroomsbeef broth (optional)
Directions
1) Cut steak into 1 " cubes; chop carrots, celery and onion; slice mushrooms
2) In large saucepan, combine meat, braley and 5 cups water. Bring to a boil, skim off foam. Add onions, carrots, celery, salt & Pepper to taste (if using). Add beef broth, if using. Bring back to a boil; reduce heat. Simmer,covered, 1 1/2 hours.

3. Add mushrooms. Cook covered 15 minutes longer, or until meat is tender.
