Lemon Poppy Seed Scones

Ingredients
1 3/4 cup flour1/3 cup sugar4 tsp baking powder1/4 tsp salt2 Tbsp grated lemon peel1/3 cup cold butter cut into small pieces2 Tbsp poppy seeds2 egg whites1/2 cup milkGlaze1/2 cup icing sugar1 Tbsp lemon juice
Directions
1. combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add lemon peel. Cut in butter until tiny bits. Stir in poppy seeds
2. combine egg with milk. Add flour to mixture. Gather dough together into a ball. do not over mix.
3. Pat dough out on a lightly floured surface until approx. 1" thick. Cut into 12 pieces.
4. Place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
5. Bake in 425F oven for 12 minutes.
6. Make glaze - combine icing sugar with lemon juice. Brush on scones immediately after removing from oven and then 10 minutes later.

    I'm sorry but this scone recipe didn't work because it lacked enough flour. The dough was sooo sticky that I had to keep adding in flour and working it into the dough which resulted in a very tough scone. - 1/8/12
