German Apple Coffeecake

Ingredients
Step 1:1 cup warm water2 tsp sugar1 pkg dry yeast1 1/2 cups flourStep 2:1 cup warm milk1/4 cup butter1/2 cup sugar1/2 tsp salt1 egg, beatenStep 3:2 1/2 cups flour3 Tbsp sugar1 tsp cinnamon1 Apple
Directions
1 cup warm water

2 tsp sugar

1 pkg. dry yeast

1 1/2 cups flour

Mix well and set in a warm place to rise (let it double)

1 cup warm milk

1/4 cup margarine or butter

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 tsp sale

1 egg, beaten

Add to batter, mix well.

Add: 2 1/2 cups flour and beat for 5 minutes or more. Grease top, set in a
warm place for thirty minutes or more. Grease 11" by 5" pan (or 9" x 13"
cake pan) or two smaller pans. Turn out batter into pan and press out. Mix 3
Tbsp sugar & 1 tsp cinnamon - sprinkle on top. Peel and cut one apple into
cubes. Press into top of cake. Set in warm place to rise for 20 minutes or
less.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 20 to 30 minutes.

Recommend icing made with butter, milk, and powdered sugar (or a nutmeg cinnamon glaze) - recipe coming soon!

    I make something very similiar to this, I use apple cider instead of milk/water, and i "marinate" the sliced apples in cinnamon sugar before adding to the cake, and then drizzle the remaining juices from that onto the cake too before baking...super yummy! - 6/12/09
