lentils with smoked turkey

2 T. olive oil1 large chopped white onion2 cloves garlic, minced3 c. split peas2 smoked turkey drumsticks6 - 8 cups chicken stock
Heat oil in a large stock pot. Add onions and saute until translucent. Add garlic and saute two more minutes. Add all remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, decrease heat to low, cover and simmer about 45 minutes until most of broth is absorbed and split peas are tender.
Remove from heat. Pull meat off drumsticks discarding skin, fat, tendons, and bone. shred turkey with fingers or two forks. Add turkey back to lentils, stir through and serve warm.
