Plum and cherry upside down cake

7 tablespoons unsalted butter1 cup packed brown sugar2 large eggs1 cup granulated sugar1/2 cup milk1 cup all-purpose flour1 teaspoon baking powder1/4 teaspoon salt1 cup pitted halved cherries1 plum, sliced
In a pot, melt 5 tablespoons butter. Add brown sugar and stir until dissolved - remove from heat, pour into bottom of a cake pan.
Heat oven to 375F.
Beat eggs and sugar until smooth. Melt remaining 2 tablespoons butter in milk.
Mix together flour, baking powder and salt. Add flour mixture and warm milk mixture to eggs and sugar, beating on low just until smooth batter forms. Press plums and cherries in an even layer over brown sugar in cake pan, then pour batter over cherries. Bake 30 minutes at 375F.
Allow to cool a few minutes before inverting onto platter.
