Ingredients
1/2 gallon of 1% milk (or skim, 1/2%, 2%)1 oz of prepared yogurt, room temperature
Directions
Heat milk over low heat until it comes up to a boil. Remove from heat and let cool to about room temperature. Pour into a suitable container with the prepared yogurt. Cover and let sit for a couple of hours. Once solidified, refrigerate.

OPTIONS
You can make it with any kind of milk you want (calculated with 1%)
If you want to make a fruit-flavored yogurt, follow all of the above steps. You can then stir in some preserves or jam. You can also take some fruit and heat it with honey until it bubbles. Let it cool and then stir into the yogurt.
If you want to turn it into raita- add some grated cucumber, salt, pepper, and cumin powder.

I guessed about 10 servings from a 1/2 gallon yield.

I'm married to an Indian and my mother in law makes homemade yogurt like this! There is nothing better than homemade yogurt, the taste of the store bought stuff is nothing compared to this. Thanks for sharing! - 7/22/09
