Nan's Homemade Caramel Sauce

Ingredients
1/4 c. hard margarine3 tbsp. flour1/2 c. packed brown sugar2 c. water1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
Directions
Mix all ingredients in a saucepan, and boil gently until slightly thickened, stirring constantly.

This recipe makes a thin sauce. To make it thicker you can add more flour.

Makes a little over 2 cups of sauce, or 8 - 1/4 c. servings.

Tip: Melt the margarine and stir in the flour first...then add the remaining ingredients. This helps make a smooth and un-lumpy sauce.
