Pulled Pork with Root Beer Sauce

Ingredients
Francisco international French Rolls, 87 gram(s) (remove)*Pork, fresh, loin, sirloin (roasts), boneless, separable lean only, cooked, roasted, 41.44 oz (remove)Salt, 1 tsp (remove)Pepper, black, 1 tsp (remove)Onions, raw, 1 cup, chopped (remove)Root Beer, 8 fl oz (remove) NOTE : DO NOT USE DIET ROOT BEER!Garlic, 1 clove (remove)Root Beer, 2 can or bottle (12 fl oz) (remove) NOTE : DO NOT USE DIET ROOT BEER!1 cup bottled chili saucelettuce leaves (optional)
Directions
Makes 8 to 10 servings.
Trim fat from meat, place in 3-5 qp crockpot.
Brown meat in large skillet before placing in Croq.
Add onions and 1 c. of root beer, then add garlic that is minced.
Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hrs or on high for 4-5hrs.
For sauce in a med. saucepan combine the 3 c. of rootbeer, chili sauce and bring to boiling.
Reduce heat. Boil gently, uncovered, stirring occassionally for about 30 min or until mixture is reduced to 2 c.
If desired add root beer concentrate (1/4 tsp) and hot pepper sauce (several dashes).
Transfer meat to a cutting board or serving platter. using a slotted spoon, remove onions from cooking juices and place on a serving platter.
Discard juices. Using 2 forks, pull meat apart into shreds.
To serve, if desired, line buns with lettuce leaves and tomato slices. Add meat and onion, spoon on sauce.
NOTE : DO NOT USE DIET ROOT BEER!

    I saw this recipe on another site. It called for Diet Root Beer. You state clearly not to use diet. Is there a reason? Have you tried diet root beer. The recipe looks great but I want to stay clear of all the sugar in the reg root beer. - 8/10/08
