1/4 cup Arahar dal1 heaped tbsp cumin seeds10 peppercorns1 dried red chilli2 tomatoes, chopped10 gms ginger chopped1/2 tsp oil10 gms butter1 tsp mustard seedspinch asafoetida
1. Heat oil and add lentils, cumin seeds, peppercorns and dried chili and stir fry until lentils are golden brown. Remove from heat, cool and grind to a smooth powder.
2. Melt butter and add mustard seeds and asafoetida. When the seeds splutter add ginger and stir 30 secs.
3. Add tomatoes, 2 cups water, salt to taste, ground powder and bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 7-8 mins.
4. Add 1/2 cup water, lime juice, coriander leaves and bring to boil. Remove from heat.
