Make sure the butter is soft. Beat the butter and the sugar together until it becomes smooth and changes colour. Try to keep the consistency that you have now throughout the preparation time. Beat the eggs separately and sift through the flour along with salt, baking soda, cocoa powder and baking powder. When the butter and sugar mix is ready start adding the flour and egg in equal measure. For example if you put 4 tbsp of flour then add 4 tbsp of egg in it. Beat them until they are nicely mixed. At the end keep some flour aside before adding all the egg in it. Beat one last time. Now add the remaining flour and with a spatula, mix them slowly by cutting into the mix once in a while. This should not be mixed vigorously. The consistency of the mix should not change and also the air within should not be gone. This comes with practice so don't worry if the first time is not as soft and fluffy as you would want it to be. Add the nuts at the end. Pre-heat the oven for about 15 minutes at 180 degree Celsius. Dust the pan with butter and flour and pour the cake mix and put it in the oven for about 25 minutes. After 25 mins check with a fork to see if the insides have been baked. If not leave it in the oven for another 3 to 5 minutes. Take it out of the oven and let it cool. This particular amount of ingredients would make a medium sized cake with a 2" cake piece for 20 people. So the nutritional info given is per 2" piece. :)
