Lemony Lemon Cake

Ingredients
1/3 cup butter or shortening1 cup sugar2 eggs1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour1 1/2 tsp baking powder1/4 tsp salt1/2 cup milk1/2 cup chopped pecans2 tsp grated lemon peelTOPPING:2/3 cup sugar1/3 cup lemon juice
Directions
In a mixing bowl, cream the butter/shortening and sugar. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and salt; add to creamed mexture alternately with milk. Stir in pecans and lemon peel. Pour into a greased 9x5x3 inch loaf baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 55-65 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

For topping, combine sugar and lemon juice. Spoon over bread while it is still warm in the dish. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from dish to a wire rack.

Makes 12 half-inch servings.
