DASH Molasses-Braised Collards

1/4 cup water2 tablespoons light molasses2 teaspoons hot sauce, such as Tabasco1 tablespoon canola oil2 cups thinly sliced onions2 cloves garlic, minced1 3/4 pounds collard greens, coarsely chopped1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
In a small bowl, mix together the water, molasses, and hot sauce. Set aside.
In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic and cook, stirring, until golden, about 10 minutes. Stir in the collards into the contents of the skillet. (You may need to cook some of the collards down before adding all.) Add the molasses mixture and stir gently. Lower the heat and cook, covered, for 40 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season with pepper.
