Onion Soup

Ingredients
3 Tb butter6 medium onions cut into thick slices1/3 cup red wine2 garlic cloves - crushed8 cups beef broth4 pieces fresh thyme2 bay leaves1/2 baguette1/2 cup swiss cheese
Directions
Melt the butter in a large pot. Add the onions and garlic and cook for 15 minutes mixing occasionally. Add the wine, the broth, the thyme, and the bay leaves. Bring to a boil and simmer for 20 minutes (uncovered --- mix from time to time).

Cut eh bread in slices and place on baking sheet and put in teh broiler until they are toasted on both sides. Place the cheese on the bread and let it melt until it's bubbling.

To serve: place the bread/cheese in bowl and pour the hot soup over it.

NOTE: Calorie count does not include bread and cheese.
