Ingredients
4 cups water5 tbsp butter (melted)4 tbsp dry active yeast1/2 cup sugar1 teaspoon cardamom9 cups flour1 egg1 cup shredded coconut1 1/2 cups vanilla custardicing (confectioners) sugarwater
Directions
Heat water and butter to just below boiling.
Mix flour, sugar, cardamom, yeast, and egg in a standing mixer.
Add warm water and mix on medium speed for five minutes until dough is stiff.
Form into a ball and place in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap and let rise until dough has doubled in size.
Roll the dough out like a sausage and cut into five oz pieces.
Roll each piece into a ball and put them on a non-stick sheet pan.
Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
Bake for 15 minutes in 375 degree oven. Let cool.
Mix powdered sugar and water (use small amounts until proper consistency is achieved) to make icing and place in a shallow dish.
Push dents into the buns, not all the way through (like for bialys).
Dip bread in icing (hole side down) and sprinkle with shredded coconut.
Squeeze or spoon vanilla custard inside of hole.
