Cowboy Coffee Cake

Ingredients
2 1/2 cups flour1/2 tsp salt2 cups brown sugar2/3 cup shortening2 tsp baking powder1/2 tsp baking soda1/2 tsp cinnamon1/2 tsp nutmeg1 cup buttermilk (or 2 T plus milk in 1 C)2 well beaten eggs--------------------------------------1 1/2 times33/4 C flour3/4 t salt3 C brown sugar11/4 C shortening3 t baking powder3/4 t baking soda3/4 t cinnamon3/4 t nutmeg11/2 C buttermilk (or 3 T vinegar plus milk in 11/2 C measure)3 well beaten eggs
Directions
Preheat oven to 375. Grease and flour two eight inch round cake pans (or 1 9x13 cake pan) Line botton with waxed paper. Combine with pastry blender flour, salt, brown sugar and shortening. Reserve 1/2 cup of crumbs. Add baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg to remaining crumbs and stir. Add milk and eggs and mix until blended. Pour batter into prepared pans (half in each). Sprinkle reserved crumbs on top. Bake for 20-30 minutes or until toothpicks inserted in the center comes out clean. Serves 12-18 Recipe may be doubled. ( or note ingredient list for 18-
