Split Black Lentils

Ingredients
3 cups (603g) split black lentils, with skin, cleaned and washed thoroughly1 small yellow or red onion, peeled and finely chopped2 small tomato, finely chopped1 (1") piece ginger, peeled and sliced in 1" long strips4 - 6 Thai, serrano, or cayenne chiles, stems removed1 tbsp cumin seeds1 heaping tbsp salt1 tsp tumeric powder1 tsp cayenne powder10 cups waterfresh chopped cilantro to garnish
Directions
Place all the ingredients into a 5-quart crock pot (except for the cilantro) and cook on high for 6 hours. Garnish with the cilantro.
