Basic Irish soda bread

Ingredients
3 1/2 c flour1 tsp baking soda1 tsp salt1tsp sugar8 - 10 oz buttermilk
Directions
Sift together dry ingredients until thoroughly mixed. Make a well in the dry ingredients. Pour in buttermilk slowly. Stir until the dough is ragged. The dough should be on the dry side. Knead very briefly, 15 to 30 seconds, until all ingredients are incorporated. Form into a rough disc on a greased cookie sheet. Cut a cross into the top to allow steam to escape. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 400 degrees and bake for another 35 minutes.
