500 g (1 lb) chopped pitted dates1/2 cup water1/2 cup orange juice1/4 (1/2) cup brown sugar1 cup unsalted butter3/4 (1) cup brown sugar1 (2) cup flour1 (0) cup whole wheat flour1 tsp baking soda1 tsp salt2 cup oats
combine dates juice water and brown sugar in sauce pan allow to soak 30 min. bring to boil at medium temperature cook until dates are soft and liquid absorbed. set aside and allow to cool 30 minutes.
cream butter and sugar. combine flours, baking soda and salt in seperate bowl. add to butter 1/2 cup at a time. using hands add oats and blend together
In greased 13 x 9 pan layer 1/2 oat mixture and press down. spread date mixture over top. add the other 1/2 oat mixture pressing down again. make sure to cover date edges with oats else date will burn. bake 350 F for 30 minutes.
