Ingredients
Directions
1 pound Pinto beans, rinsed and picked for stones1 teaspoon onion powder1 teaspoon garlic powder1 teaspoon cumin, ground1/4 teaspoon oregano1 tablespoon Crisco or lard4 bouillion cubes, any flavor (I prefer chicken)Approximately 5 cups water
Add all ingredients except water and salt to slow cooker. Add enough water to cover the beans by about an inch. Set cooker to HIGH and cook for 6 hours. My cooker tends to cook a little fast so it may take up to 8 hours.
At the end of the cooking time, check the beans for doneness. They should be tender all the way through. Add the salt at this time, stir. Drain off the cooking liquid but reserve it if you are planning to mash the beans as you will need to add some liquid back as you mash. The amount depends on your desired consistency.
