Baked French Toast Casserole

.5 c heavy cream2 c whole milk8 large eggs2 T vanilla.75 c sugar4 T butter, plus more for greasing dish.5 c pecans.5 c brown sugar2 T cinnamon.5 c flour1 t nutmeg
Butter baking dish liberally. Tear bread into rough chunks, 1.5 - 2 inches, and place into baking dish. Whisk cream, milk, eggs, vanilla and sugar together. Pour batter over the bread and let soak while you prepare streusel, or even overnight. Mix butter, flour, pecans, cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar in medium bowl, and mix together with a fork or pastry cutter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle over the top of the bread/batter mixture in baking dish, and bake for 45 - 60 minutes, depending on consistency you prefer. Bake closer to 45 if you like a very moist custard, bake closer to 60 if you prefer a drier consistency, with deeply caramelized sugars.
