1 cup Crisco Shortening1 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed3 cups whole wheat flour1/2 cup wheat germ2 tsp. baking soda1/4 tsp salt2 tsp. cinnamon1/2 tsp. nutmeg1/2 tsp. ground cloves1 cup chopped apple (about 1 medium apple)1 cup raisins
Begin by mixing shortening & brown sugar in mixer bowl. Add flour one cup at a time, mixing in well. Mix in baking soda, salt and spices with the first cup of flour. Add applesauce, one cup at a time and then wheat germ. Finally mix in apples and raisins. Spread in greased 9x13 pan. Bake in preheated 350 oven for 50 minutes or until wooden pick comes out clean. allow to cool somewhat before cutting.
