Sausage and Barley Stew

Ingredients
1 pound hot breakfast sausage (I prefer Purnell's if you can find it) 2 small onions, chopped4 potatoes, cubed4 celery stalks with leaves, sliced4 carrots, sliced3/4 cup tomato paste1/3 cup barley, uncooked1 1/2 t. worcestershire sauce 5 1/2 cups water 2 smashed garlic cloves salt and pepper to taste
Directions
Cook the sausage in a skillet just until browned -- drain the fat. Add the onions and cook until translucent. Transfer to slow-cooker and add water, tomato paste and worcestershire sauce. Add to the water the cubed potatoes, sliced celery, smashed garlic and barley. Set slow-cooker to low for 6 to 8 hours. Add the carrots about halfway through the cook time.
