Ingredients
1 Cup White Lilly Self Rising Flour5 Tablespoons lard1/2 Cup Buttermilk
Directions
Pre-heat oven to 425 degrees.
In a medium bowl add Flour and Lard rub between fingertip to combine until it looks like lumpy sand. Make a hole in the middle of mixture and add the Buttermilk. With a spoon pull dry mixture into the buttermilk turning until all of the flour is moistened. Don’t stir any more than necessary to just bring ingredients’ together. How you handle this dough will determine whether your biscuits are soft and wonderful or hockey pucks. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface sprinkle with a little flour then flatten dough with the palm of your hand to ½ inch thickness. Cut out rounds and arrange on a baking pan.
If you like crusty biscuits leave ½ inch space between each biscuit. For a more soft and tender texture arrange biscuits so that they touch. Biscuits tend to rise a little bit higher if they are arranged shoulder to shoulder for baking. Place in preheated 425 degree oven for 17-22 minutes; or until golden brown.
