easy cheesy cabbage casserole

Ingredients
.5 head, medium (about 5-3/4" dia Cabbage, fresh 2 tbsp Butter, salted 2.5 serving Bacon, John Morrell, Hardwood Smoked Bacon (2 slices/17g) .34 tbsp Basil .5 tsp Thyme, ground 1 tsp Oregano, ground .5 tsp Rosemary, dried 2 cup, shredded Cheddar Cheese 16 oz Ground beef, extra lean (15% fat) pan broiled 0.6 oz onions, raw, purple/red (1 slice)
Directions
preheat oven to 425 degrees.
cook the bacon until crispy . remove bacon; crumble; reserving 1 tbls of bacon grease. add 2 tbls butter and the cabbage and the crumbled bacon. Stir to coat. Pour mixture into bottom of greased casserole. brown the ground beef and onions. mix in the spices, salt and pepper to taste and pour over cabbage mixture. Layer the shredded cheddar on top and place in oven for 15-20 minutes until the cheese is brown and bubbly on top.
