- Number of Servings: 12
Ingredients
Directions
2 cups whole wheat flour 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips 1/3 cup dried sour cherries cut into small pieces1 tsp cream of tartar 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp salt 1/3 cup sugar 4 T. butter chilled and cut into small pieces 3/4 cup 2% milk
Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to 450 degrees.
Whisk together flour, cherrys and chocolate, cream of tartar, baking soda, salt and sugar. With pastry blender, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse lumps. Working quickly, pour in milk and blend together ingredients with rubber spatula until you have a soft, slightly wet dough. Do not overprocess or scones will be tough. Turn dough out onto well floured surface. Divide into two balls and with each ball, roll out until 1/2 inch thick and cut into 6 wedges like a pie. Repeat with other ball. Place wedges on greased baking sheet and bake until scones are lightly browned, 10 to 12 minutes. Serve warm.
