Delicious flavour. Only used 1 tbsp basil though. Next time I would soak the pea before making as they were still tough after cooking on low for 8 hours. I had to cook for an additional 2.5 hours on high and then the texture was perfect. Would definitely make again!! - 11/25/08

Great on a cold winter day! We soaked the split peas overnight, at the suggestion of some reviewers. We also sauteed the onion and celery with 2 cloves of minced garlic, before adding to the crock pot. We added black pepper and the ham bone, too. It was a hit! - 1/25/09

My husband went nuts! This was very good and was perfect after easter. I did throw in some small bits of ham at the end and had to add that to my calorie total. Made it with some Kreutz fat free Cornbread and Landolakes lowfat butter and what a meal!! Thanks. - 4/19/09

This was an incredible easy and very tasty soup... I used veggie and chicken broth and both were low sodium so salt content went down even more.. - 4/8/09

This was AWESOME never made pea soup before but hubby has been asking forever. The only thing I changed was cut back on the basil and added pepper and a tiny bit of lite salt. Otherwise perfect!! - 5/28/08

I made this on the stove. Sauteed the veggies then added the split peas and ham. Next time will not add the water. I had to cook it for an additional hour to evaporate the excess liquid. LOVED the soup! - 1/27/08

This was very tasty! I only used half of the chicken broth - I didn't think it needed more. My husband loved it! - 1/14/08

Made this for dinner tonight and it was awesome! After reading reviews I used the 4 cups water to soak the peas overnight, added the rest of the ingredients in the morning and cooked on low for 10 hrs. Used 1 Tbsp basil, 1 tsp thyme, and a bay leaf. Will definitely make again!!! - 1/30/13

Used chicken stock vs. broth to decrease the salt content, since we're adding ham. - 3/8/17

Can we please get the serving size? I apologize if it's in here and I've just missed it. I've had one similar to this one and it is a very good recipe. Thank you so much for posting this. - 9/5/16

Not sure what I'm doing wrong! I love this soup, but the peas are too course. I soaked them overnight AND cooked it on low for 8 hours! Im going to put it back on for another 4 hours, but 12 hours to cook? Anyone have some tips for me? - 3/31/15

This soup was delicious!!! I also soaked the peas over night, added a few more seasonings - basil, bay leaf and the ham bone. Definitely will make again. - 1/11/14

I was a little disappointed with this soup. I love split pea soup and had never made it before. This isn't exactly what I was looking for. I should have read the reviews and cut down on the basil. Surprisingly my husband loved it, so that's why I gave it a 4 rather than a 3. - 2/26/13
