Split Pea Soup

Ingredients
2-1/4 cups dry green split peas (1 pound)8 cups cold water1 tsp instant chicken bouillon granules1 meaty ham bone (1-1/2 pounds)1 medium onion, chopped1/4 tsp pepper1/4 tsp dried marjoram, crushed2 medium carrots, chopped2 large stalks celery, chopped
Directions
Rinse peas.
In large pot (or dutch oven) combine peas, water, chicken bouillon, ham bone, onion, pepper, and marjoram.
Bring to boil; reduce heat.
Cover and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
Remove ham bone; when cool enough to handle, cut off meat and coarsely chop.
Discard bone.
Return meat to soup.
Stir in carrots and celery.
Cover; simmer 30 minutes more.

    I make a similair recipe and mine is so close to this I have to comment. It is so GOOOOODDDDD! I take out the ham bone and give it to my big dog to chew on, he loves it too. I also add a bay leaf and some apple cider vinegar( 1/4 cup) Curry really adds some zest too. - 2/13/11
