Aunt Fran's Birthday Sugar Cookies- Number Cookies no frosting

1 cup butter, salted2 cups sugar, white2 tbs lemon juice2 eggs1 tbs milk1 tsp vanilla3 tsp grated lemon rind5 cups flour, white4 tsp baking powder1/2 tsp salt
With an electric mixer, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Add lemon juice, milk, vanilla and lemon rind. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add to creamed ingredients. Mix until blended. Divide dough into thirds, wrap and chill overnight. Roll dough to 1/4" thickness on a lightly floured board. Cut with cookie cutter. Use lightly greased baking sheets. Bake at 350 for 9-12 minutes.
Makes 96 .5 oz cookies
Optional frosting- use powder sugar and milk along with whatever food coloring you like, stir together at a ratio of 1 cup powder sugar to 2 tbs of milk. Not to much milk, keep it thick!
