I've made this several time's. It is spongy and the taste is very similar to cocoa pebbles or flakes (the cereal). If it comes out hard as a rock you are cooking to long. If it comes out custardy you havn't cooked it enough, definatly put it in longer considering the raw egg component. - 1/5/10

I'm really interested in making this, but is there a substitute for the applesauce? I'm allergic to apples. - 10/25/08

I substituted the applesauce for oil, so you can use any type of oil instead of the applesauce. I've made it both ways and there was no real difference. The oil will had a little more calories, but I'm sure you could use a little less oil.

This really satisfied my chocolate craving! Instead of applesauce, I used raspberry puree that I have frozen into ice cubes -- 3 cubes..... wonderful chocolate raspberry flavor!!!! - 10/19/10

Ok, I don't know if I did something wrong, but it was one tough sponge. I couldn't even spoon any out. Gross. - 11/29/09

I added some baking powder and some dried cranberries, kept the oil because I hate apples. I like it enough to make again. - 7/24/09

    Wonderful!
I changed some of the ingredients.

4 packets of Stevia - no cals./all natural
    no Choc. chips
    2% Milk

It calculated to 248 calories for the whole thing! I added a scoop of vanilla ice cream which added 180 calories! for a total of 428 - occasional treat only with the ice cream. - 4/30/09

I made it and ate the whole thing. I used dark choc chips on top. It was very good. I'll try to share it next time with my DH. - 2/19/09

WOW! I just made this and is it ever tasty!! Does not look that great and texture is more like a custard, but more than makes up for it in taste. I will definitely make again. - 10/23/08

How wonderful! A lowfat low cal version of the "cupcake" recipe shown so many places online - now I can stop experimenting with that recipe, and just use this one! - 10/18/08

What a cute idea! This way there isn't a lot of leftover to feel you have to eat either. A lot of times I only want a little bit to satisfy me. - 10/18/08
