Chilean Salad (Ensalada a la Chilena)

Ingredients
4 cups finely sliced onion4 cups diced peeled tomatoes1 tsp. salt (for spice)1 tbsp salt (for "amortiguar" the onion)pepper1 tbsp of oil (mild flavored)lemon juice to taste (optional)1/2 cup finely chopped fresh coriander (cilantro)
Directions
Put onions in a bowl. Cover with cold water with a tbsp of salt and leave for an hour.

Drain well. Mix with the tomatoes and coriander on a large platter. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Pour on oil and lemon juice. Mix and serve .
