Turkey Bolognese Rotini

1 tablespoon olive oil1 cup finely chopped onion1 cup finely chopped celery1 cup finely chopped carrots1 ½ teaspoons minced garlic1 pound lean ground beef1 pound lean ground pork1 cup red wine½ teaspoon salt½ teaspoon pepper½ teaspoon ground nutmeg1 bay leaf1 2/3 cups beef broth1 10 ¾ ounce can tomato puree1 cup milk14 oz package of rotini
Heat the olive oil in a very large saucepan or medium stockpot over medium heat. Add vegetables and garlic, then cover and cook for 8 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove vegetables and brown the ground meats. Add wine, salt, pepper, nutmeg and bay leaf and simmer for 5 minutes. Put the vegetables back in the pot and add the beef broth and tomato puree. Simmer for an hour, stirring when you’re close to it. Stir in the milk and simmer for another 20 minutes. Sprinkle in a touch more nutmeg & red wine if you have the urge. Throw out the bay leaf and serve over cooked rotini.
