Ingredients
One head of Red Cabbage Shredded12 slices of bacon (with fat)2 Cups of Cider VinegarSalt, Garlic powder to taste
Directions
Shred one head of red cabbage. Place in pot with water to cover and bring to boil. Boil until tender but not mushy about 3 minutes (and water will turn deep purple). Drain water, set aside.
In the mean time, cut bacon into small peices and fry in pan until crispy, and remove from heat.
Pour bacon, fat and all into cabbage, add 2 cups of vinegar (isn't that cool, the color goes from deep purple to bright fushia!) Stir, add Salt and Garlic Powder to taste.
It makes alot of servings-10 large servings, but this is one of those dishes that tastes even better the next day or two!!

I make this in a similar way but use much less vinegar. More like 2 Tablespoons. Also before boiling cabbage I shred and salt to draw out the fluid and soften. It is savory of course . - 10/7/11

Someone gave it 5 stars so I tried it. But the 2 cups of cider vinegar must be an error. It was so sour, I had to try to fix it. I added brown sugar, apple and onion. It's better, but I wouldn't make it again. I bet the person giving it 5 stars hasn't made this particular recipe. - 9/11/15
