0.25c cooked toor dal1 large tomato, chopped0.5tsp crushed black pepper1tsp cumin0.25tsp asafoetida2 pearls garlic0.25tsp sambar powder1tsp lemon juice0.5tsp salt1tsp oil6c water, divided1tbsp cilantro, chopped (optional)
Pressure cook the dal with 3 cups of hot water. Wait for the pressure cooker to whistle three times. Set aside.
Crush garlic with pepper, cumin and asafoetida.
Heat oil, add this mixture.
Add tomatoes to this and stir until they are cooked.
Add sambar powder and salt. Stir; add a cup of water.
Mash the dal in 2 additional cups of water and add to the boiling mixture.
Remove from heat. Add lemon juice and coriander.
