German Sausage and Sauerkraut

6ea- 14.4 oz cans Silver Floss Bavarian Sauerkraut5ea- Links - Alsatian, German, or Pork RAW sausage. (Links about 16" long, each)1 cup - Granulated Sugar3/4 cup - Vegetable Oil1 onion - Medium - Sliced end to end1 tsp - dried hot pepper flakes (same used for pizza topping)
On Medium heat, in large pot/skillet, cook sauerkraut, sugar, oil and onion- cover. (Need large enough pot/skillet to hold all of sauerkraut and sausage in the end).
Stir and cook the sauerkraut until the onion is transparent.
On Medium/High heat, in separate large pot, place sausage, add enough water to cover and add the pepper flakes. Cook until done.
Cut sausage links into serving pieces, about 4" long. Add to the sauerkraut, and mix. Let cook on low/medium for about an hour or two.
Serves about 15 people.
