In a meduim mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and nutmeg.
In the bowl of an electric mixer, (or a hand held mixer) cream butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Add applesauce and mix well. Add sifted dry ingredients and blend well. Drop by heaping tablespoons on a cookie stone. if you don't have a cookie stone such as one by Pampered Cheff than you can use a regular cookie sheet that has been greased. Flatten and sprinkle lightly with sugar. Bake in pre heated oven for 10-12 min at 375 F Makes 4 dozen
I cook mine in an convection oven so if you don't have one than to ensure even cooking you can turn and switch the cookie trays half way through.

These soft cookies are amazing! I made them for my sons social studies class and everybody loved them. They were also a hit with my five year old whom is very very picky. I would defintely reccomend these cookies to anyone and my family is already asking me to make more. - 5/1/13

I'm so sorry about that. The recipe submission is a little complicated. It doesn't let you measure things normally. So here are the measurements. 2 1/4 c sugar, 1 1/3 c butter, 3 eggs, 2 tsp vanilla, 1c applesause, 6c sifted flour, 1tsp salt, 1tsp baking soda, 2 tsp baking powder, 2 tsp nutmeg
