Ingredients
Directions
1 14 oz. package Hillshire Farms Turkey Polska Kielbasa1 small head cabbage, cut in half and sliced (about 2 lbs)2 cups sliced onion (about 2 medium onions)2 cups chopped celery (about 2 large stalks with leaves)2 large potatoes, 1 lb. chopped into bite size pieces4 large cloves garlic, chopped2 cups water1 cup chicken broth2 Tablespoons olive oil (to saute onions, celery and garlic Seasonings:1 Tablespoon turmeric1 Tablespoon sweet curry powder1 Tablespoon Red Hot Sauce or Tabasco Sauce1 tsp paprika1 tsp rosemary1 tsp cayenne1 tsp red pepper flakesSalt and pepper to taste (add some to onions to sweat them and the fat with the onions will carry more salt flavor through the dish and allow you to use less salt overall)
Makes 10-12 cups, depending on how much you cook it down. I estimated the nutrition info at 10 one cup servings.
1. Put sausage with 2 cups boiling water into a large, covered pot and cook for 10-12 minutes to precook the sausage before adding the vegetables. While this is cooking, saute the onions, celery with half the spices and hot sauce on a medium flame until golden, about 5-8 minutes. Then add the garlic, stirring well and cook another 3-5 minutes. Finally add the sliced potatoes, stir well and cook for an additional 5 minutes or so to let them absorb some of the flavors.
2. When the sausage is cooked, add the chopped cabbage cover and cook for 10-15 minutes to wilt it. Add the remainder of the spices, stirring well, then add the onion mixture, stirring again until it's all well blended. Bring it to a boil, cover, and reduce heat and let simmer 30 minutes or so until the potatoes and cabbage are done to your taste.
3. Remove cover and allow to simmer another 10 minutes or so to reduce the broth, and adjust and add more seasonings as desired.
