Upside Down Pear Coffee Cake

Ingredients
1/2 cup butter or margarine1/2 cup sugar1 egg1 cup whole wheat flour1 cup all-purpose flour1 Tbsp baking powder1/2 tsp salt2/3 cup milk3 Tbsp butter1/4 cup packed brown sugar1 cup peeled pear slices
Directions
Preaheat oven to 375. Cream butter and sugar. Add egg. Mix dry ingerdients together. Add dry ingred and milk alternately to butter mixture. Set Aside.

Melt 3 Tbsp butter in bottom of 9 X 9 in pan. Sprinkle brown sugar over top. Arrange pear slices.

Spread batter in pan and bake for 30 - 35 minutes. Remove from oven. Invert pan immediately, but keep pan over cake for several minutes. Remove pan. Serve warm.

    Made as directed and it was delicious! 6 servings were huge so I cut the cake into 12. I think next time I will play around with different fruits and substitutions to make it lower in calories :). - 6/24/14

    This was delicious! I added 3/4 tsp of vanilla, 1/2 t cinnamon, and a pinch of cloves and nutmeg. I used rice milk and Earth Balance Butter to make it dairy free. My husband and son ate it right up! - 1/29/11
