Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Filling

1 18.25 oz. spice cake mix1 15 oz. can pumpkin1 8 oz. package neufchatel1 egg1/3 c. sugar1/8 tsp. salt1 cup mini semisweet chocolate chips
Makes 24 cupcakes.
Grease or line 24 muffin cups. Preheat the oven to 350.
Mix together the cake mix and pumpkin. This mixture will be very thick. Using a standmixer makes this step much easier.
Beat together cream cheese, egg, sugar, and salt. Stir in chocolate chips.
Divide the batter evenly between 24 muffin cups. Top each with a dallop (about 1 T.) of cream cheese.
Bake 20 to 25 minutes. Cool 5 minutes in the tins, then remove and cool on wire racks.
