Bratwurst With Apples, Onion and Sauerkraut

*Cumin seed, 1 tsp (remove)*Fennel seed, 1 tsp (remove)Cornstarch, 14 grams (remove)Pepper, black, 0.5 tsp (remove)Onions, raw, 1 cup, chopped (remove)Apples, fresh, 3 small (2-1/2" dia) (approx 4 per lb (remove)Bratwurst, 6 link (4 per 12 oz package) (remove)Allspice, 0.5 tsp (remove)Garlic, 1 clove (remove)Sauerkraut, 4 cup (remove)Regular Beer, 8 fl oz (remove)*Ketchup, Heinz, 2 tbsp (remove)
Position rack in center of oven; preheat to 400°F. Place cumin seeds and fennel seeds in small resealable plastic bag. Crush seeds with mallet. Add cornstarch and pepper to bag; shake to blend. Spread sauerkraut over bottom of 13x9x2-inch glass or ceramic baking dish. Sprinkle 1/3 of cornstarch mixture over. Arrange onion slices over; sprinkle with half of remaining cornstarch mixture, then lightly with salt. Spread half of apple slices over, then sprinkle with remaining cornstarch mixture. Place bratwurst over apples, then arrange remaining apple slices around bratwurst. Mix beer, and ketchup in measuring cup. Pour mixture evenly over. Cover tightly with foil.
Roast bratwurst 45 minutes. Uncover; Roast uncovered until edges of apples and sausages begin to brown, about 25 minutes longer. Serve with bread.
