Blueberry Nectarine Muffins

1 1/2 C all purpose flour (whole wheat is a good substitution)2 tsp baking powder1/4 tsp baking soda1/4 tsp salt3/4 C granulated sugar1/2 tsp allspice1/3 C butter, softened1 tsp orange zest1/4 C orange juice (or any citrus juice)2 eggs2 medium nectarines, peeled & coarsely chopped1/2 C fresh blueberries2/3 C chopped or slivered almonds1 T granulated sugar
Heat oven to 350. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add the sugar, allspice, butter, orange zest, orange juice and eggs. Beat with a mixer until ingredients are blended. Carefully fold in the chopped nectarines, blueberries and 1/4 C chopped almonds.
Fill greased muffin tins. Stir together 1 T sugar and the remainder of the almonds. sprinkle on top of the batter. Bake for 20 minutes or until the muffin tops are lightly browned. Serve warm. Makes one dozen standard muffins & four dozen mini-muffins.
