Chana Dal

Ingredients
1.5 c chana dal5 c water1/2 tsp turmeric2 slices ginger1 tsp salt1/4 tsp garam masala3 Tbsp ghee1/2 tsp cumin seeds2 cloves garlic1/2 tsp chili powder
Directions
Boil dal, skim scum. Once de-scummed, add turmeric & ginger, cook 90 minutes on low, stirring more frequently during last 30 min of cooking. Add salt & garam masala & stir. Remove ginger.
Heat ghee in frying pan, add cumin seeds, stir, add garlic, cook until garlic is lightly browned. Add chili, stir, then pour into dal pot & mix.
