Gratin de Pommes de Terre Au Jambon (Light)

4 medium russet potatoes, thinly sliced3 Tbsp whole wheat all purpose flour4 Tbsp Promise fat free tub marjarine (3 to mix in and 1 to dab on top)1 med onion, thinly sliced1tsp salt2.5 cups fat free half and half1.75 cups smoked ham cubed1Tbsp whole wheat bread crumbs
Heat oven to 350
Spray 2 quart Covered Casserole w/ cooking spray
In 2 quart sauce pan melt 3 tbs butter over medium heat. Cook Onion in butter about 2 minutes stirring occasionally, until tender. Stir i flour salt and pepper. Cook stirring constantly until smooth & well combined. Stir in half & half slowly again until well combined. heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil & stir one minute.
Layer potatoes & ham in casserole distributing the ham so that it is proportionate to each serving & pressing down gently to make surface even. Pour sauce over potato mixture gently shake pan to allow the creamy mixture to seep into the layers evenly. Cut butter into small pieces; Sprinkle bread crumbs over top evenly, lastly sprinkle 1 tbs butter over potatoes.
Cover bake 30 minutes.
Uncover and continue to bake one hour up to 1 hr 15 minutes longer depending on your oven, until potatoes are tender.
Let stand 5 to 10 minutes before serving.
Serve with fresh Green Beans!
