Homemade Hamburger Helper Base Mix

2 c. powdered milk1 c. cornstarch1/4 c. chicken boullion, reduced sodium (** see note in instructions)2 T. onion flakes1 t. dried thyme1 t. dried basil1 t. ground pepper2 T. dried parsley1 T. garlic powder
Mix all ingredients together in a large jar. Store in cool, dry place.
Basic hamburger helper mix recipe: 1 lb. ground meat, 1/2 c. mix, 2 c. water, 1-1/2 c. pasta of choice. Brown meat, add ingredients and bring to boil. Simmer for about 15 minutes or until pasta is tender. Because base of mix is milk, stir often to avoid scalding. Add more water, a small amount at a time, if needed, if sauce gets too thick. Sauce will still thicken with all the cornstarch in it.
** Original recipe posted in several places online calls for 1/4 c. chicken boullion. 1/4 c. equals 12 teaspoons. And if using cubes, one cube typically equals one teaspoon loose boullion. Can substitute no-sodium boullion for even lower salt content.
