I think this recipe is good as is. Did not feel like one reviewer that they needed extra yeast. They rose just fine. This is just what I am learning is typical of a lot of homemade breads like this - substantial to eat and good! - 11/27/17

I used another package of yeast and no salt. they turned out fabulous! The first time I followed this recipe they didn't rise well and, although delicious, they were very dense. So I recommend mixing two packages of yeast with about 1/4 cup hot water and then following this recipe.

I have made these using a similar recipe. I put all the ingredients in my bread machine and set it to the dough cycle. Once finished, I turn them out cut with a biscuit cutter and let rise. My family loves these. - 10/4/09
