Buttermilk Scones

Ingredients
2 c. whole wheat flour1-1/2 tsp. baking powder1/2 tsp. baking soda1/4 tsp. salt8 T. chilled butter1/2 c. buttermilk1 egg, slightly beaten1-1/2 tsp. vanilla2/3 c. dried fruit (chopped if need be)
Directions
Sift dry ingredients into a bowl. Cut in butter. Combine wet ingredients; beat slightly and let sit a minute. Stir fruit into flour mixture; add wet ingredients. Stir till soft dough forms. Form into one large round 8-inches across, or form into individual scones. Place on parchment lined baking sheet. Brush tops with a little milk, sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 375 deg. F till scones just turn golden (about 14 minutes).
