Apple and Spice Baked French Toast

1/2 large loaf french bread4 large eggs1 3/4 cups half and half1/2 cup sugar1 1/2 tsp vanilla1 1/2 tsp cinnamon1/2 tsp nutmeg2 Granny Smith Apples1 T butter
Slice bread into 1 1/2 inch slices. Spray 9x13 glass pan with nonstick spray (I use PAM). Place bread in glass dish, tightly together.
In separate bowl, beat eggs, sugar, half and half, and vanilla by hand with whisk for about one minute. Pour one half of egg mixture evenly over bread.
Peel, core and slice apples. Place sliced apples evenly over bread. Pour balance of egg mixture over apples. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Remove french toast from refrigerator and let stand on counter for 20 minutes. Sprinkle with cinnamon and bake for 20-25 minutes.
Serving Size: 1 slice = 1 serving ( makes 8 servings)
