the calories are so low you can use cows or condensed milk and a second kind of cheese. Throw in a protein like a smoked sausage or left over chicken and top with bread crumbs and it still would be low and jazzed up some. - 2/7/10

if you grew up with a dish, try to make it over a little healthier, and post it here, why do people post negative comments? I like to look at the comments for addt'l ideas but I hate reading "this doesn't sound good" and that type comment. - 3/17/10

There is absolutely no flavor to this. My husband added sour cream and parmesan to his and I added salsa and sour cream to mine. That seemed to make it decent. As is, this recipe is not so great though. - 9/10/09

I don't really get people saying this sounds or was bland, did you not see the last line "salt, pepper, seasonings to taste"? I guess if it was bland, you didn't follow the directions and season it to your particular taste. It sounds great to me, if it is bland, I will, hello, follow the directions - 2/12/10

We made the recipe tonight with a can of tuna packed in water and some substitutions (regular shell macaroni, 2% milk and Velveeta). It was a colorful and complete dinner for my daughter and me. I'd make it again with the whole grain pasta, fat-free soy milk and low-fat cheddar. - 3/17/10

Mmmmm, comfort food! I used skim milk instead of soymilk (only had vanilla sweetened soymilk on hand) and used the new high fiber white pasta for more tender macaronis. This is a great mac n cheese by itself, and can have add-ins for variety! - 3/17/10

I used whoel wheat penne pasta, added chicken and onions. After I cooked in the oven I added tomatoes to the top. I liked my version of the recipe. It was great to get the email with the recipe as a suggestion as I was in a rut, looking for something new for dinner! - 2/9/10

Good basic recipe. Additions of sweet onions, a little garlic, fresh grape tomatoes, and fresh parsley and ground red pepper flakes would ad flavors and keep the calorie count low. Yummie!!! Peas are so good for you and this is a good way to add them in. - 2/7/10

A good basic recipe - we add onion, plain yogurt (instead of sour cream) and some seasoning. Sometimes make it with tomatoes! - 3/18/10

I used skim milk and added onions, a bit of garlic and chopped tomatoes with green chilies,... my husband loved it!
His momma used to make a similar dish with tomatoes, pasta and peas! Thanks for the varieties everyone has shared! It gives us the freedom to "make it our own"! - 3/17/10

If you haven't actually tried the recipe, how can you justify giving it a rating? I want to hear from those that have tried it. - 12/23/10

Dreamfields pasta, 1% milk, Red pepper, left over ham, and onions made this a colorful, and flavorful meal. I served stewed tomatoes with it also. - 12/24/10

I like to add peas and either ham or tuna to left over mac & cheese. I also add chopped onions and crushed potato chips, Durkee fried onions or Italian bread crumbs on top and bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Great way to make "planned overs" to stretch the food budget. Doesn't feel like leftovers. - 12/23/10

Sounds like "mac n cheese" to me with peas - yum! Thanks for posting it. I will probably use skim milk - and I use to make a similar recipe and added tuna - a family favorite. Thanks. - 4/12/10
